On the 23rd February Hazel Blears MP, UK Home Office Minister, launched a government service called ITsafe. The service was created to provide home users and small business with "proven, plain English advice on protecting computers, mobile phones and other devices from malicious attack." The remit of the organisation is to provide:
- A website (designed specifically to work over slow connections and with most computers) that gives advice on keeping your devices safe, including a glossary in plain English to help you understand any technical terms that are used.
- A low-volume Alerting Service which will warn you of the most serious risks that might affect you when you use your computer.
Interestingly, the first alert on their home page is for CommWarrior which was discussed in a previous article on this blog.
